ONDC, the rising star of e-commerce, embarks on a global journey! Join its exciting expansion as it plans to reach new shores and deliver wonders worldwide!

Last year during this time, ONDC was just a budding platform, but it had already caught the attention of everyone. People were intrigued if ONDC could disrupt food delivery giants like Zomato and Swiggy with its unique and cost-efficient business model.

But, just after its launch, the platform took flight, and a wave of excitement caught social media. Tweets and posts flooded in, praising ONDC’s affordability and seamless user experience. It quickly became evident that people were embracing ONDC with open arms.

In fact, according to Moneycontrol, the number of retail orders on Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) skyrocketed to an astonishing 30,000 in June 2023, even when the government-backed network scaled back its spending on incentives.

But that’s not all! ONDC is now gearing up for a new game. It looks beyond domestic borders to expand its reach to international destinations like UAE and Singapore!

What’s Happening?

ONDC has some exciting plans in the pipeline. They are all set to start testing business-to-business (B2B) exports of Indian goods in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore around September or October of this year.

The idea behind this move is quite clever. ONDC knows that in countries like UAE and Singapore, many people love buying Indian textiles, artefacts, and cereals. So, by focusing on these countries, ONDC believes it will be easier for Indian businesses to export their goods.

Now, this move is focused on medium enterprises and will also support small merchants in promoting their products on the platform.

How Will ONDC Go Overseas?

According to sources mentioned by Moneycontrol, ONDC’s plan to go overseas is shaping up. Firstly, the basic plan is to assist small merchants in selling their products to foreign buyers through a well-crafted integrated system of logistics and documentation.

The inspiration is taken from the success story of Amazon selling its products worldwide through its well-integrated system. In India, too, over 1 lakh merchants are selling their products through Amazon.

But, the plan isn’t possible without a robust logistic system. Hence, ONDC is considering collaborating with logistics players like Delhivery, Shiprocket, DHL, and others to offer an end-to-end solution for smaller merchants. This would streamline the shipping and delivery process, making it easier for merchants to reach customers with ease.

Then comes the problem of credibility. How will foreign buyers trust small businesses? To eradicate this issue, ONDC is already in talks with top international business advisory firms to introduce credibility badges. These badges would vouch for the quality of specific products and the reliability of merchants on the platform, as reported by Moneycontrol.

With these thoughtful strategies, ONDC is determined to enable small merchants to expand their horizons and venture into international markets confidently.

What’s Next?

ONDC and Google have teamed up to bring Google Maps to their platform. That means ordering will get a whole lot easier with special address descriptions like landmarks and area names. So, no confusing addresses and easy delivery!

And that’s not all – ONDC has set its sights on a massive market, aiming to connect 900 million buyers and 1.2 million sellers.
With the overwhelming support it is already receiving, this ambitious goal is within reach.

That’s it for today. We hope you’ve found this article informative. Remember to spread the word among your friends. Until we meet again, stay curious!
