On 1st October 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G service in the country. With this, India has entered a new era in technology.More importantly, soon after the launch of 5G in the country, India is slowly moving towards 6G.
What’s Happening?
According to news agency ANI, India’s Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish is that India leads the world in 6G connectivity’. He made this statement after the introduction of 5G services in India.
You might think that 5G services have not yet fully expanded in India, then why is India talking about 6G technology?
To understand the importance of 6G, it is essential to know about the benefits of 5G services.
- With the introduction of 5G services in the country, the internet speed will increase up to 10 times.
- It will significantly change agriculture, education, health, transport, traffic management, the defence sector, and lifestyle.
- New avenues will open in all the fields like artificial intelligence, robotics industry, virtual reality, e-governance etc.
- Internet download speed in 5G will be up to 1 GB per second, which is currently limited to 150 megabytes per second in 4G.
With a 6G network, the data download speed can be up to 1000 GB per second. Now you can estimate how big of a revolution will be in the technology field with the introduction of the 6G service. However, the reality of internet speed is a matter of debate.
How Much Power Does The 6G Claim Hold?
In 2019, the 5G network started in countries like South Korea and America. According to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) report, by June 2022, the 5G network had reached about 70 countries, and now India has entered it. Regarding internet speed, India is still far behind in terms of 4G internet speed compared to other countries.
Many big companies of the world are working on 6G technology. In this, countries like China, Japan, and South Korea are at the forefront. How strongly India will move in this direction is a big question in such a situation.
However, the stalwarts of the telecom sector showed strong unity on the occasion of the launch of 5G services regarding Prime Minister Modi’s vision of digital India. Reliance Industries Chairman – Mr Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Airtel Chairman – Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal and Aditya Birla Group Chairman – Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla joined PM Modi at the event.
What’s Next?
Campaigns like digital India support the 6G technology. This will be the sixth generation of wireless communication technology, which supports cellular data networks. After proper implementation, this will be a significant upgrade after the 5G technology.
Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark had said at the World Economic Forum that the 6G technology will start in the world by 2030.
Many companies and technology innovation institutions like Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Samsung, LG, Apple, Xiaomi, Jio and Airtel have shown interest in the 6G network. 5G service has been started in only 13 cities in India. Its reach is projected in rural areas of the country by 2024.
In such a situation, when will the 6G technology reach India, and how it will change how we interact is something we will see in the upcoming times.
That’s it for today.
